PROAVES Reserve
Chamicero De Perijá
Fall in love with the tropical forests of the Serranía del Perijá
The Natural Reserve was established with the firm intention of recovering and protecting a highly fragile and degraded ecosystem that had been affected by deforestation, páramo burning, and the unsustainable expansion of the agricultural frontier.
The Serranía del Perijá, a protected area of páramo and subpáramo, is home to endemic species from these northernmost foothills of the Eastern Cordillera. This makes it one of the most important ecological enclaves in the Andes-Caribbean transition.
