Among the most important birds in the Reserve are the Helmeted Curassow (Pauxi pauxi), the Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia castaneiventris), the Saffron-headed Parrot (Pionopsitta pyrilia), the White-mantled Barbet (Capito hypoleucus), the Sooty Ant-Tanager (Habia gutturalis), and the Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea), among others.
Likewise, the Reserve’s forests host a high diversity of mammals, including the Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), peccaries, agoutis, ocelots, monkeys, squirrels, armadillos, tamanduas, deer, and foxes.

Location:
The Reserve is located in Cerro La Paz, in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, within the municipalities of Betulia and San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander. It is about an hour and a half from the urban area of San Vicente de Chucurí and two and a half hours from the city of Bucaramanga.

Transportation Requirements:
Most of the road is paved, but the last 11 km are best traveled by motorcycle or 4×4 vehicle.
By paying for a day-pass to enter the Fundación ProAves Nature Reserve, you declare that you agree to know, respect and adhere to the obligations and restrictions presented below:
FIRST: Fundación ProAves is a non-profit entity whose purpose is the conservation and protection of biodiversity and the environment in Colombia.
SECOND: You accept that the activities that you intend to undertake within the ProAves Reserve are autonomous and independent, and you are aware that risks can arise during your visit in the Reserve and that you will assume full and exclusive responsibility, at your own expense, should any risk, accident, and/or any other event occur.
THIRD: During your visit to the ProAves Reserve you undertake to take care of and maintain in perfect condition all the facilities, trails, signage, and all the infrastructure. You accept that you will be financially and personally responsible for any damage or loss that the reserve may suffer as a result of non-compliance.
FOURTH: I know that in order to comply with Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013, I have been notified and understand the data privacy policy of the ProAves and the purposes for which it is used. I authorize the processing, collection, storage, use, circulation, deletion, updating, transmission and/or transfer of personal data provided, as well as ensuring that the data provided is true, that I have not omitted or altered any information. The Data Treatment and Protection Policy can be consulted at www.proaves.org.
FIFTH: I understand that the ProAves Reserve is a site with a high concentration of rare and Threatened species and is listed as an Alliance for Zero Extinction site, a Key Biodiversity Site, an Important Bird Area, and registered in the National System of Protected Areas.
REGULATIONS AND OBLIGATIONS
I understand and undertake not to undertake the following mandatory regulations:
It is absolutely prohibited to manipulate, collect, hunt, and/or remove specimens or biological samples; as well as manipulating, moving or collecting nests, feathers, skins, flowers, cuttings, or any animal or plant or part of them in the Reserve.
It is absolutely prohibited to start fires or light cigarettes, bonfires, candles, stoves, or barbecues.
It is absolutely prohibited to enter with pets, like dogs and cats.
It is absolutely prohibited to mark, write, stick, alter, make signs or stick decals anywhere.
The operation of drones is prohibited without prior authorization.
Travel exclusively on marked trails and roads.
Respect the staff and their families in charge of protecting conservation areas.
Take care of the facilities, equipment, notices, tools and systems installed in the Reserve.
Dispose of litter / trash in the designated trash/litter bins.
Avoid disturbing wildlife with loud music or voices and do not over play bird songs.
When leaving the accommodation, disconnect and turn off the lights and electrical equipment.
If applicable, leave the gates and doors on the trails as you found them, open or closed.
Do not alter or touch any indigenous pictograms, rock formations or ancestral constructions.
If you share photographs, videos or recordings recorded from the reserve on social networks, you are required to tag @proaves
If you observe any visitor action within the Natural Reserve that goes against conservation and these regulations, inform the ProAves staff or write to info@proaves.org
