With the support of Corporación Autónoma Regional de Chivor, and Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund, Fundación Loro Parque and American Bird Conservancy, the Parrot Bus visited southwestern Boyacá Department in February 2009, as part of the Eastern Biodiversity Ecological Route, one of four routes run by our mobile environmental class room in Colombia.
During this four day visit to the municipalities of Garagoa, Chinavita and Ramiriquí almost 1000 people, especially children, were educated on the wonderful biodiversity of Colombia participating in 30 environmental workshops offered by the Parrot Bus in 10 urban and rural education institutions.
“Children were excited to participate in the activities and enjoyed our education games, the presentation on birds and nature, and our Threatened Parrots of Colombia video”, said Johanna Villa, Parrot Bus’ coordinator. “They also received booklets on parrots, migratory birds and birdwatching, from our character, Otto Rico (a representation of the Yellow-eared Parrot) as well as stickers about birds and shirts on parrots”.
