Due to the difficult situation faced by the poorest rural communities in Colombia caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Fundación ProAves gave 100 markets to families who live near to El Dorado, El Pangán and El Paujil ProAves Reserves, places where more than 716 species of birds are protected.

It was a challenge to bring humanitarian aid to each of these families: the difficult access to the areas, the closing of some roads and the constant rains complicated the delivery; but thanks to the ProAves teamwork of directors, deputy directors and rangers, the communities were able to receive the aid. Among the beneficiaries were: indigenous communities of the Awa people, mothers of families, older adults, adults with physical disabilities and children.

Our work was rewarded with the joy of these families and, especially, the smiles of the children when they saw the rangers loading these markets, which included food and food and toiletries.

For Fundación ProAves it is essential to support and work hand by hand with the communities near to the Reserves, because without their help protecting nature would be almost impossible, says Sara Inés Lara, Executive Director.

This humanitarian gesture was possible thanks to the support of Women For Conservation.
