The Fundación ProAves, with the support of Cortolima, organized a birdwatching workshop and a camping trip with the boys and girls of Roncesvalles, Tolima to introduce them to the important world of conservation.
Thanks to the extensive experience that ProAves has in environmental education, in the Tolima department, and thanks to its active participation in activities planned by the Regional Autonomos Corporation of Tolima (Cortolima), the Foundation received a donation of 4 Colombian bird field guides, 4 binoculars and 7 Bird kits from Cortolima.
At the 2021 Tolima Bird Festival, organized by Cortolima, a socialisation workshop was held, where 7 boys and girls were given bird kits. Each kit consisted of a bird field guide (created in collaboration with ProAves), colored pencils, markers, a pencil, a pencil sharpener, a pouch, and a drawstring sports bag. With the help of the provided materials, the kids learned about the great diversity of bird species in their town.
At the end of the event, a practical workshop was held on the outskirts of town, where the boys and girls could use their bird field guide and apply their knowledge acquired from earlier. They sighted different bird species in their natural habitat and they learned to identify them by their color, beaks, feet and plumage.
These activities help human beings, from a young age, learn to live in harmony with nature, value the regions’ biodiversity and contribute to the conservation of natural resources.
We thank Cortolima for the space it provided and for the equipment it donated to the Fundación ProAves.
