Sara Ines Lara

Sara Ines Lara is Colombian with native American ancestry (indigenous Páez). Sara has almost two decades of conservation experience across Latin America, working closely with local organizations, communities and government agencies. Sara has led many initiatives to protect wildlife and their habitats, particularly endangered and migratory birds. Sara has helped conservation organizations across the America’s develop long-term financial and institutional stability. Sara was originally trained as an engineer and worked in major infrastructure projects, such as the UK Channel Tunnel Rail Link in Halliburton. She was the founding Executive Director of Fundación ProAves in Colombia and build that organization to over 50 staff and dozens of conservation projects before joining American Bird Conservancy as VP of International Programs. Sara’s principal interests include preventing extinctions, working with local stakeholders, women’s empowerment, and climate change.
