With birding journeys, lectures, radio interviews and a photo exhibition, ProAves is contributing to the VIII Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival on San Andrés Island, held by 20 organizations in the region and led by the Caribbean Society for the Study and Conservation of Birds. This year’s slogan is “Celebrating birds in culture.”

The festival takes place April 22, 2009 (Earth Day) to May 22 (International Biodiversity Day), it is part of the International Migratory Bird Day, and it will take advantage of the opportunity to explore birds and culture. In San Andrés, ProAves activities are mainly focused on the conservation of the endemic San Andrés Vireo.

The festival is important as it draws attention to the 67 critically endangered and endangered bird species of the Caribbean region. The event is supported by institutions such as Partners in Flight, National Wildlife Federation and Puerto Rican Ornithological Society, and in San Andrés, by Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Jardín Botánico and Coralina. Activities by ProAves are organized by our representative on the island, Andrea Pacheco. Please help support this work.
