Alonso was one of the founders of ProAves and has provided invaluable and ceaseless support to the organization throughout its history; he is also an accomplished conservationist and ornithologist, having rediscovered the Yellow-eared Parrot in Colombia in 1999 and the Fuertes’s Parrot in 2000 after 91 years. He has 12 years of experience working closely with the ProAves team, in order to further our conservation objectives within the context of our institutional mission and vision. With this new responsibility he will continue to contribute greatly to progress the conservation work of the Foundation.

ProAves has over 60 full-time employees, protecting our 22 bird reserves spanning over 68,734 acres in Colombia protecting over 1,200 species of birds, including 75% of those threatened with extinction within the country. We also manage a large number of environmental awareness, research and reforestation programs, and manage several other protected areas on behalf of other governmental and non-governmental organizations within Colombia. We shall continue to strive for the conservation of the wonderful biodiversity of our only home, Planet Earth.
