Our team of rangers continues to train for the protection of biodiversity. For 4 days we carried out the tree climbing course in the ProAves Loro Fuertesi Reserve, thanks to the support of the World Parrot Trust.

The course aimed to train our team of Rangers on the principles of tree climbing and the safe installation of nests for the reproduction of the species. Jack Haines, Regional Manager of the World Parrot Trust, instructor of this learning space, highlighted the importance of this type of training and valued the intense work carried out by the rangers.

The course included the installation of several nests in different trees to teach participants how to climb safely, how to identify the ideal conditions for climbing and how to evaluate the safety of the tree.

The participants took ownership of the subject, climbing trees of different sizes and installing artificial nests at strategic points. This exercise, in addition to being an educational experience, encouraged reflection on the need to protect the environment, balancing human intervention with the conservation of ecosystems.
During the installation practices, species such as the Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis) and the Blue-crowned Parrot (Hapalopsittaca fuertesi) were sighted, both species of utmost importance as they are categorized respectively as Vulnerable (VU) and Endangered (EN), according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN, 2024).
The installation of these elements seeks to contribute to the nesting and reproduction of these species.

This course is the beginning of an ongoing effort to improve the capacities of rangers and continue promoting the conservation of endangered species in our Nature Reserves.

¡Thank you World Parrot Trust for contributing to the conservation of biodiversity!
